John Marcellus "Tex" Moore (1865-1948), painter of cowboy genre scenes and landscapes. Self-taught, encouraged by Frederic Remington. Opened a studio near Yellowstone National Park. Painted landscapes of Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. Worked as a cowboy, Texas Ranger, and Indian Scout. Did a painting of the Grand Canyon for the Santa Fe Railroad. Designated Official Cowboy Artist of the Lone Star State in 1935.
